Confessions of a Deluded Mind

A cry for attention is a cry for help. To be pathetic, a loser or dysfucntional is common. To be so and to aspire to be normal or great is also common. But many aspire to be loonies. Pretend to be dark, mysterious, demented, psycho. Sadly, they are not so...maybe a little deluded but certainly not demented. Its just the aura of mystery the attraction of darkness that makes them pretend. It is indeed a cry for help. Manifesting itself in the form of attention grabbing.

Now the trick here is doing something that comes as second nature to us. Heres our chance to act like our parents and elders and basically go nuts with the wiseguy/smart alec routine. We get to deny them what they want (oh, boy). Giving them attention is to reinforce their delusions. What they need is not our attention, but our help. Helping such a person is not easy. Telling him he needs help would be to tell him that you see right through him. As ive occasion to mention before, telling a person that is like the worst possible thing you could do. Its like going up to Houdini in the middle of his greatest trick and saying,"hey mister, i know how you do that trick."

And to a person obssessed with mysteries and the dark psyche, such a thing would be doubly or tenfold worse because the one fact that he treasures, the one fact that he holds paramount is that no one understands him/her. That is his misery and he revels in it. It is his gift and his curse - it makes him the Spiderman of his world.

Now im no Freud (though i have a friend who is) - hell im worse than small fries (French Freud, if u will) compared to him, so far be it from me to suggest any treatment. But i think a fun way to experiment (now now, we are not toying with the poor soul, merely experimenting)
would be to adapt a dark persona urself. Overdo it, make it over the top and let him see how ridiculous it looks. He will end up ridiculing you for your pretentiousness (what you thought only people who force themselves to watch Water, Namesake, Capote, The Queen and not enjoy it are pretentious?). Then patiently ease in and make him see that you are only mirroring
him.

Bloody Gem of a Movie (Blood Diamond "Review")

Im going to keep this honest and simple. Im not here to criticise or judge a movie. All i want to do is categorise it and tell you in a few simple words whether its watchable or not, and if yes then by whom.

Leonardo di Caprio is the only pretty boy i can thin of who is appreciated as an actor. Brad Pitt rocked Fight Club, Tom Cruise is an awesome actor (just see Jerry Maguire, Top Gun, Last Samurai), but in recent times i can only think of Leo and Russell Crowe as hunks who got noticed
for their acting. Leo keeps up the good work in Blood Diamond. But to be brutally honest, Djimon Honsou is the one to watch out for in this movie. He is one AMAZING actor. Ive seen him in Four Feathers, Gladiator and The Island, but in this movie he totally rocks and almost manages to steal the show away from Di Caprio.

Blood Diamond is set in mid nineties, in war torn Africa, more specifically, Sierra Leone. Honsou (Solomon Wendy)is a fisherman and the patriarch of a family torn apart. Di Caprio (Danny Archer) is a bounty hunter/weapons dealer/diamond smuggler with loose morals - a man just looking to get by in a tough and uncompromising world. Di Caprio teams up with Honsou, who found and buried a rare pink diamond.
Archer views the diamond as his salvation, his way out of the hell hole that he is in. The issues are tackled well, without making the movie boring. Inspite of the fact that sides have been taken, in reality its still difficult to determine whos good or bad in conflict racked
African nations. What is certain (and portrayed with brutal honesty) is the fact that innocents are caught in the crossed fire. The action sequences and the battle horror portrayed are intense
and graphically real. The drama is riveting, and the long runtime(by hollywood standards) is barely noticed. The score complements the movie well.

Girls go watch it and see the origin of the precious trinkets that you covet so much. Guys go watch it for the action. Over all its damn good cinema.

Threads of Infatuation/Bonds of Love

People love to come up with quotes on love, many people like to compare love to a multitude of things and then some just say that love is a feeling that goes beyond words. I believe that love doesnt exist, as ive said it before. At least not how they describe it. That only exists between brothers, or parents and children or siblings or good friends. What you
get in a man/woman relationship at best is compatibility and tolerance. Infatuation has to be guarded against at all times. Its like a constant boxing match. Let your guard down and you get hit right in the jaw. Dizziness leads you to believe its the real thing.

Infatuation is something that you want to believe. Its a false impression that you desperately want to be true. "Love" is when realisation dawns that fantasies are just that...fantasies. Its not love its just a sense of surrender. You accept what you have and enjoy the compatibility
that you share. At this point, being the chauvnist that i am, let me clarify that i think this is mostly the girls fault. Ive seen people barely twenty and mostly under twentyfive becoming happy couples. I mean have
they really lived life enough to think theyve met their perfect match? Then they start dating and drifting away from friends and theres politics and backbiting. And when its time to get serious, theyve probably had too much of each other and are sick of each other, but they go on
with it, and ultimately have a crappy life.

The Importance of Being Scared

No one realises the value of a coward. A coward is the person who breaks down first. He is the first to relent in a battle of wills kind of situation. Just when you think that you are going to have to give in in, say, a group situation, a coward in teh group gives up before you have to. The second most heroic person might curse the hero who steals the limelight, but an almost complete coward will silently bless the coward.

Perception about whats brave and whats not has also changed. Stepping out and being the odd one out also takes a lot of courage unless you are a fool who doesnt care. The most common example that comes to mind is ragging. Its a tradition they say. Telling on the perpetrators is a strict no-no they say. In face of such opposition, telling on them, and standing up for whats right becomes the brave thing to do. Our country of course has had a dubious history for parading preposterous rituals in the name of tradition, so dont ever fall for that excuse.

Doing the brave thing, unless you happen to be a saint, is always a little hard, and thats how you know youve made the right choice.

Proving Your Point

Debate and arguement are very different. Yet its very easy to lose sight of the line dividing the two. Most people
thing that an argumentative attitude, and an opinionated view on life are the traits of a good debater. In fact if you look
at a good debater, he is never argumentative. The secret is to be a good listener. Eager as you might be to thrust your
views and opinions in the limelight, listening to what others have to say is much more helpful. Observing them is the key to know how they think. And the ability to think like your opponent is the greatest advantage you can have. If you can do this while keeping your cards close to your chest, its even better. Playing the silent type automatically makes your position stronger....hence the saying, "Strong silent type". Shouting out loud just tilts ur cards and gives others a glimpse into your mind. After all it is better to stay silent and let people think that you are a fool rather than open your mouth and
confirm their doubts.

We Remember

History is very important. It certainly plays an important role in your life. Short term history may appear insignificant
but no one can deny the effects of long term history. People remembered some shit about promised land and displaced 50
million palastenians to create a country for a certain people. Admittetly what hitler did was wrong but .... the certain
people had induced stagnancy and economic disruption in the country. That is to be forgotten..short term history. I think
people subconciously forget whats convinient for them to forget. People have selective memory and will remember and forget according to what suits them best. This is best seen in the relegion that is cricket. The godly stature bestowed on the
players and the equally harsh critisism they face on a single failure. Forgive and forget when you are in a celebratory
mood. But when you are feeling angry, remembering the slightest mistake made by a person long ago is enough to jusitfy hatered towards him in your eyes.

All Mine

Selfishness exists at several level. It just depends on a persons interpretation. I mean wanting yourself to have the best of everything is just as selfish as wanting your group to have the best.. Its collective pride but its still pride. So, continuing in the same vein, is patriotism a virtue? shouldnt we be thinking at a world level in this age where information and communications have made the world very small. Thinking about you is selfish. Think about your family. Isnt that selfish too? Shouldnt you care about others. You want your country to be the best. Is that really a virtue? You want your Community to prosper. Is that correct thinking? If you care only about your relegion, in India you are labelled a communal person. If you think about only your country, that still is actually selfish in the sense that you do no care about the rest of the world. PRide will exist. At some level or the other. Only saints can be selfless but then i believe they do these deeds to attain supreme oneness and gain favor of the gods. So there ya have it. No one is selfless. At least not completely.

Personally Speaking

People are not impassive but time and technology have developed a sense of apathy to an extent that we are only able to respond if we can relate to incidents to a personal level. And society hasnt done anything to respond to that. People instantly respond to things if explained to them at a personal level. Examples of this are usually seen in the form of
entertainment. This media is used to deliver messages where people can relate to them - thru movies, thru tv, thru books and stories.

The tv, the computer, the walkman have grown more and more personal and they have substituted emotional response in men. I once related the law of energy to emotions. I will now procceed to apply the same law to concentration. Man cannot increase or decrease his concentration power. He can transfer it. The more things distracting him, the more divided is his concentration. He has to transfer his concentration and responsiveness. Things like the educational system and political system need to be rectified to meet this change. The educational system in India is one of the most impersonal ones in the world. Its like they are trying to fulfil an obligation by giving students a nominal even rudimentary education rather than develop the potential of, i daresay, one of the most important (barring a few antisocial, anti..well human elements..Mansuri twins this means u) resources of our country.

Well thats it for me people, see you next year. Have a rocking eve...K.K. Signing out!!!!

Go With The Flow

A fat ugly woman enters. A thousand others start cheering and screaming. Then they scream more at every little thing she says. She sits on her couch and talks to loser women who have no better way of whiling away their afternoons about inner goodness and empowerment and other rot. Yes yes i am talking about the Oprah Winfrey show. Thousands of people mindlessly cheer and enjoy one of the stupidest shows on television.

We have all heard the term mob mentality. a dangerous situations brought about in the heat of the moment and rising temperatures. This situation is something i would like to term as passive mob mentality. Sane and apparently normal people getting carried away by the momentum of the hype generated by a few people. This i believe is even more dangerous than normal mob mentality. And may lead to more dangerous results. Mob mentality may explain the Gujarat riots and carnage, but only passive mob mentality can explain the reelection of a mass murderer like Narendra Modi.

I dont have claim over a vast store ( or even a little store for that matter) of knowledge of history, or politics or well...political history ( is there a historical politics?). But i daresay there have been few occasions in a democracy where a mass murderer not only escaped conviction but returned to power. Some might argue that those who declare wars are all mass murderers and might quote a few American presidents as example, but this man procceded to wreak havok in the very state that he was governing. And not just mass murder - torture mutilation, gangrape, and all kinds of imaginable (and quite a few unimaginable) offences.

Soulless Wonder

So i just went back to Gujarat. Somehow the place has lost its charm for me. Ahmedabad has made tremendous progress,
developing to become a metro no less. But the city has lost its soul i believe. Its like one huge person partying, having
fun, hanging out but at the end of the day devoid of soul and meaning. Initially i thought the Gujaratis were bad, but later
i was forced to alter my opinion and believe that they were good natured and harmless beneath their rough exterior.
But once again i am forced to reconsider. What if that was just another cover. And beneath it they are all shallow and
evil. I may be judging them very harshly but after the carnage and riots, i believe i have a right to. And if they are
being misjudged, they deserve to be. I mean the place is taken over by Modi and his knobbly kneed army in shorts. People even relected him let alone have him judged for his sins. And they say hes improved roads, done a lot for development. I mean in a pros and cons situation ur weighing in MASS BLOODY MURDER with ROAD AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT? Are you kidding?
